Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is frequently seen as one of the most difficult but well-loved poker variations. It is a variation that, even more than regular Omaha poker, invites action from every level of players. This is the primary reason why a once irrelevant game, has increased in acceptance so quickly.

Omaha hi/low starts just like a normal game of Omaha. Four cards are handed out to each player. A sequence of wagering ensues in which gamblers can bet, check, or drop out. 3 cards are given out, this is called the flop. One more sequence of betting happens. After all the gamblers have either called or dropped out, a further card is flipped on the turn. Another sequence of wagering follows at which point the river card is revealed. The players must attempt to make the best high and low five card hands based on the board and hole cards.

This is the point where a few players can get baffled. Contrasted to Holdem, in which the board can make up every player’s hand, in Omaha hi lo the player must utilize precisely three cards from the board, and exactly 2 cards from their hand. No more, not a single card less. Contrary to normal Omaha, there are two ways a pot can be won: the "high hand" or the "low hand."

A high hand is just what it sounds like. It is the best hand out of everyone’s, regardless if it is a straight, flush, full house. It is the identical concept in almost every poker game.

The lower hand is more complex, but certainly free’s up the action. When deciding on a low hand, straights and flushes don’t count. the lowest hand is the worst hand that might be put together, with the worst being A-2-3-4-5. Because straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the smallest value hand possible. The low hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and smaller. The lower hand takes half of the pot, as does the higher hand. When there’s no low hand presented, the higher hand takes the entire pot.

Although it seems complex initially, after a couple of rounds you will be agile enough to pick up on the fundamental nuances of the game with ease. Seeing as you have people wagering for the low and betting for the high, and seeing as such a large number of cards are in play, Omaha 8 or better offers an amazing assortment of betting options and seeing that you have numerous players battling for the high hand, as well as several trying for the low hand.
