Howard Lederer grew up in a family of five in which he liked participating in different card games when he was young. He found himself getting really aggressive in these particular card games as he was competing against his father. After finishing Sr. High school, Howard made a decision to place college on hold for a little while and moved to New York to compete in some formidable chess. While playing chess, he was brought in to a poker game taking place in the back of the room. Howard’s initial two years were difficult as he would play countless hours and lost a majority of the time. He made some extra money by being an assistant for the poker enthusiasts. He judged he could improve his game by analyzing his life away from poker. He made an effort to acquire more rest and concentrate more on poker.

The real advancement in his skills happened when he began gambling at the Mayfair Club in New York. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon club where the greatest players would often play against one another. Howard had access into a number of the best minds in chess. With their assistance, he would sharpen his cunning thinking skills. Howard applied these strategy ideas to the game of No-Limit texas hold’em.

Howard also assisted his sibling Annie Duke learn the game of poker. She was an excellent student of poker as she constantly asked questions about the right way to make the correct decision. Howard Lederer told Annie to head out to Sin City and compete in the WSOP tournaments. Annie is one of the best women players the poker world has ever seen. He headed to Vegas in 1993 and participated in money games for the successive decade. When the WPT grew in popularity, Howard made the decision to participate in more tournaments.
