NL Texas Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker competitor on the planet by many of the top-ranked professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His papa taught him penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup whatever he could about poker. He routinely would tell his elders that he was going to be a professional poker player. He didn’t allow the detrimental comments from other people destroy his goal of becoming one of the strongest poker players in the world.
Phil started competing intently after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his abilities at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The initial few years for him were a teaching experience and winning wasn’t a normal outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP when he made 2 final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he defeated many of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to discipline and an immeasurable passion for the game of poker. He says that he is learning every day and is very abashed about his achievements. He admits to making mistakes in each session of poker and constantly aspires to improve.
Even though Ivey has come first in some big-time tournaments, he likes destroying cash games on a normal basis.
