Web Big Stakes Poker- Gus Hansen
Gus Hansen experienced a marvelous year on the WPT where he was the only gambler to achieve final table in three of the events. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You may recall one of the biggest pots in high stakes poker recorded history against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen raked in a massive pot with quads against Daniel’s full house. Hansen has made many televised poker appearances and is thought to be one of the strongest bettors around the world. While wagering on web poker, a different side of Hansen has emerged. He often competes in the 200/400 NL maximum buy in of Forty Thousand dollars. Gus generally buys in for the min of $16, 000 and plays very poorly. He sits there waiting for a good hand and then pushes all-in. I know Gus is an excellent poker player but certainly not even close to the everyday players at 200/400no limit. Unless he is penniless, he has absolutely no reason to play at the table with the minimum buy-in.
Playing for the min takes almost all of the skill out of big stack poker. Hansen is assumed to be one of the greatest poker players in the world but he cannot buy-in for the total amount. I think television can skew our view of the real world sometimes. The best players anywhere in the world may be players you have won’t have heard about. Gus can be seen wagering on online poker on Full Tilt. He usually participates in high stakes omaha eight-or-better and texas hold’em. Gus Hansen has shown himself as a competition player. Can he back up his talents in money games?
