Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker competitor in the world by quite a few of the top-ranked professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather taught Phil one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup anything he could about poker. Phil would tell his parents that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t let the adverse feedback from others annihilate his ambition of being one of the strongest poker players on the planet.

Phil began competing seriously after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his techniques at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for Phil were a learning opportunity and coming away with a win wasn’t a normal thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved 2 final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he destroyed a number of the well known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his success to discipline and a continuing passion for poker. He says that he is learning every single day and is incredibly humble about his success. He knows he makes blunders every single session of poker and always aspires to improve.

Even though Ivey has won some big tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a normal basis.
