NL Texas Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker player in the world by many of the top-ranked professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup anything he could about the game. He routinely told his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t let the adverse comments from other people destroy his goal of becoming one of the strongest poker competitors in the world.
He started competing seriously after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his techniques at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a teaching period and winning was not a regular thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made 2 final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he destroyed quite a few of the better known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his success to hard work and an undying passion for poker. He states that he’s learning every day and is quite abashed about his success. He knows he makes errors every single game of poker and always strives to improve.
Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some big-time tournaments, he prefers destroying money games on a regular basis.
