Internet Big Stakes Poker- Who is Gus Hansen?
Gus Hansen had a marvelous year on the WPT where he was the only gambler to achieve final table in three of the events. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You might remember one of the largest pots in high stakes poker recorded history against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen won a large pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Hansen has made many tv poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the best enthusiasts around the world. While gambling on net poker, another side of Hansen has appeared. Gus regularly plays in the 200/400 NL maximum buy-in of Forty Thousand dollars. Gus usually buys in for the min of $16, 000 and plays very weak. He waits patiently for a good hand and then goes all in. I accept that Gus is a great poker player but not even close to the regular players at 200/400NL. Unless Gus is flat broke, he has absolutely no reason to sit at the table with the min buy in.
Buying in for the minimum takes almost all of the skill out of big stack poker. Hansen is assumed to be one of the greatest players anywhere in the world but he can’t buy in for the total amount. I think television can alter our perception of the real world at times. The greatest poker players anywhere in the world could be players you have never heard of before. Gus can be seen competing in net poker on Full Tilt. He commonly plays in big stakes omaha eight-or-better and texas holdem. Gus Hansen has proven himself as a tournament player. Can he back up his talents in cash rounds?
