Before you Tilt

Ah, the poker steam. If a poker player claims never to have looked down the barrel of an approaching steam – they are either telling a lie or they haven’t been betting very long. This doesn’t mean obviously that each and every one has been on steam before, a number of people have awesome willpower and carry their losses as a defeat and keep it at that. To be a strong poker gambler, it is extremely crucial to appraise your successes and your defeats in an identical manner – with no emotion. You participate in the game in the same manner you did after taking a difficult beat as you would after winning a big hand. Most of the poker masters are not enticed by tilting following an awful loss as they are incredibly experienced and you should be to.

You have to understand that you will not win every hand you’re in, even if you are the strongest player. Hands which commonly cause players to go on tilt are hands you were the leading choice or at a minimum believed you were until you were side swiped and you lost a gigantic chunk of your stack. Awful beats are going to develop. Embrace that reality right now, I will say it again – if your brother enjoys cards, if your father plays cards, if your grandparents play cards – We all have poor defeats at some point. It’s an unavoidable experience of playing Hold’em, or for that matter any kind of poker.

Since we are assumingly (almost all of us) playing poker for a single reason – to earn $$$$, it certainly makes sense that we would wager accordingly to maximize winnings. Now let’s say you are up one hundred dollars off of a $100 deposit, and you take a huge hit in a NL game and your bankroll is at one hundred and twenty dollars. You’ve lost eighty dollars in a hand where you were assured to pick up $200two hundred dollars when you decided to go all-in on the flop and held a 10 – 1 edge. And that guy! He banged you out on the river? – Well stop right there. This is a classic choice for a new bettor to start tilting. They just lost too much $$$$ on one hand that they really should have won and they are pissed
